Mission Statement

The Princeton Animal Welfare Society is the primary animal rights group at Princeton. We seek the abolition of the property status of non-human animals. Accordingly, we are in strong solidarity with the international movement to end the exploitation of animals for food, clothing, research, and entertainment.

Our purpose is three-fold: (1) to make Princeton students aware of the choices they can make in their own lives to help animals, (2) to persuade University officials to end the University’s support for practices harmful to animals, and (3) to participate in national campaigns on crucial animal rights causes.

We work by means of education, discussion, public demonstration, and other non-violent means.

Philosophy

While PAWS members need not espouse any particular philosophical framework, all members believe that the current state of animal exploitation is ethically unacceptable.

Every year, ten billion animals are raised in cramped, inhumane conditions only to be slaughtered in yet more despicable ways. Millions more suffer from repetitive and unnecessary experiments, while others are cravenly exploited for fashion. Further, circus and other “entertainment” animals suffer extreme deprivation from disgracefully cruel routines of travel and training.
