For ClergyIsn't being a priest wonderful? Wouldn't you like others to share in this beautiful way of serving Christ? We want to encourage you to share the joy of your priesthood with others, especially young people. Tell them stories of how being a priest has been so fulfilling for you. Make it a regular habit in your ministry to encourage young people to consider becoming a priest. Find ways to involve young people who you think might have a vocation to participate more fully in the life of the parish and in worship (e.g. through lay reading, acolyting, service projects, working around the church, etc.) Invite them to speak with you in confidence to explore God's calling and become a mentor to young people who seem to have a call. By doing so you can change lives and enrich the church! If you are a bishop we respectfully urge you to ask young people to consider a call to the priesthood every chance you get. Think of how many young people can hear this message if you bring it up every time you make a parish visitation! Have a look at the web site for PLSE (pronounced "pulse", standing for Pastoral Leadership Search Effort) which has great resources for congregations that wish to raise up young people for ordained ministry. |
