For Youth Workers and Sunday School TeachersMany kids who are drawn to youth activities at church may have a desire to explore becoming a priest. But most never will unless someone encourages them to think about it. You might get your group to discuss the difference between a career and a calling. We urge you to raise the possibility of a priestly vocation with your groups as often as possible. You might say something like, "Hey! Being a priest is really cool! And it's not too soon for you to think about whether God might want you to be a priest. So if any of you would like to talk about this in confidence, let me know and we'll help you learn more about being a priest." Many priests tell of a youth worker from childhood who said something like this and it changed their lives forever! Have a look at the web site for PLSE (pronounced "pulse", standing for Pastoral Leadership Search Effort) which has great resources for congregations that wish to raise up young people for ordained ministry. |
