Discernment Process for ECP's Next Chaplain

Steve, Andrea, and Aidan White are moving to Massachusetts! Read Steve's letter to ECP about the move.

Status April 19: The Discernment committee has received 25 applications and is in the process of whom to invite to telephone conversations.

The Procter Foundation and its President, Bishop George Councell, have appointed a Discernment Committee to seek ECP's next chaplain. The name "discernment committee" places an emphasis on the mutual quality of the decision-making among the committee, the vestry or oversight group, and the priest. It replaces the better-known "search committee" terminology which, despite best intentions, embodies a one-way process of interviewing and hiring.

The members of the Discernment Committee include undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff members from Princeton, Westminster Choir College, and Princeton Theological Seminary, in addition to past and present members of the Foundation. The Committee began meeting in early February and is now making contact with potential candidates. The Committee has developed a position description for the chaplaincy, which includes contact information that interested candidates can use to learn more about this opportunity.

Everyone in ECP's community should feel free to speak to members of the Discernment Committee about this process of transition. We will do our best to keep you up to date with the Committee's progress, but the names of potential candidates at any stage along the way are confidential and will not be disclosed.

Please pray for the members of the Discernment Committee and for all those with whom they work over the next few months. Here is one prayer that you can use:

Direct us, O Lord, in all our doings with your most gracious favor, and further us with your continual help; that in all our works begun, continued, and ended in you, we may glorify your holy Name, and finally, by your mercy, obtain everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
