On April 3, 2008, Manna Christian Fellowship held a benefit concert on campus for the Children of War Rehabilitation Centers featuring student performers, spoken word artist Jonathan Walton, and professional hip-hop artists Lyricks and DJ Zo. By incorporating a concert into this year's 5EEK Justice campaign, Manna and its partners hope to build upon GospelSpeak's success in fostering a lasting sense of compassion for the cause and inspiration to further action. Lyricks and DJ Zo will be returning for this year's concert, joined by fellow Virginian artists Manifest and Tim Be Told.
For Princeton undergrads, the 5EEK Justice Concert is FREE. For non-Princeton undergrads, we are charging $7 per ticket. To secure your seat(s), please purchase your ticket(s) online here. Though we will be selling tickets at the door for $7 each, please note we MUST cap the audience at no more than 400 attendees. Due to the size of the concert space, we will NOT be able to accommodate additional attendees.

Combining elements of soul, pop, rock, gospel and blues, Tim Be Told has emerged in the Charlottesville music scene with their own unique sound. After tracking their debut album "Getting By" in the Summer of 2007 and playing their first show a mere few months later, the band has gone on to perform at various East Coast venues such as the Knitting Factory, Jammin Java, and the Satellite Ballroom. Recent winners of UVA's 2008 Battle of the Bands, Tim Be Told (Tim Ouyang - vocals, Luan Nguyen - guitar, bgvs, Andrew Chae - guitar, Jim Barredo - drums, and Parker Stanley - bass) continues to grow a loyal and passionate fanbase both in Virginia and beyond. With each show, the band gains new listeners with their infectious guitar hooks, captivating melodies, and driving rhythm parts; but most importantly, they hope that their music will cause people to view life through a different lens, one of honesty, hope, redemption, and change. |

Rick Lee (Lyricks) and Peter Kang (Manifest) are Korean-American rap artists based in Northern Virginia. Both are supported instrumentally by Alessandro Manno (DJ Zo), whose talent on the turntables is unparalleled. Their music includes a God-focused repertoire, and is characterized by a genuineness of lyrics, smoothness of flow, and strength of passion and humility found in very few hip-hop artists today. In addition to performing in secular concert spaces like the LA Galaxy's halftime show, where they have been able to introduce themes from the Gospel to audiences who may not yet know Christ, they have also served as emcees in various worship settings at churches and Christian concerts. Some of their venues have included Inspire '08 in the Los Angeles area, Chodae Community Church in Norwood, New Jersey, Bethany Church in Delaware, Anaheim Korean Presbyterian Church, and Princeton's GospelSpeak. About three years ago, Rick spent a year in Uganda on two separate missions trips with YWAM. His passion for spreading awareness about the conflict and the plight of the children of war stems from his firsthand experiences with them. This music video documents his journey in both song and visualization: |
