Schedule with Descriptions:
Thusrsday March 1, 8pm:
Cosa Bella / Fiona Mackenzie / 2006 / 15 min. / USA
Delphine, French, sexy, capricious and married, is in love with Belle, her best friend from college, a beautiful and successful interior designer in New York City. Sexy, passionate and heartfelt, the two lovers meet one last time for a loving rendezvous.
Shortbus / John Cameron Mitchell / 2006 / 101 min. / USA
The lives of several characters in present-day New York cross as they navigate the intersection between love and sex, male and female, straight and gay. There are Rob and Sophia who are happily married, Jamie and James who are considering opening up their relationship, perhaps with Ceth, Caleb the voyeur, and Severin the dominatrix. Their lives converge at the club, Shortbus.
Friday March 2, 8pm:
Black & White / Kirsty MacDonald / 2006 / 17 min. / New Zealand
In a small New Zealand hospital in 1953, the birth of Mani Bruce Mitchell caused a mild pandemonium. Fifty years later, "Black And White" interweaves the stories of this intersex activist and the acclaimed photographer Rebecca Swan, exploring their potent creative collaboration. This profoundly moving documentary introduces viewers to notions of fluid gender identity, challenging the rigid categories of "male" and "female."
The Aggressives/ Daniel Peddle/ 2005/ 73 min./ USA
Daniel Peddle exposes the subculture of New York lesbians living as "aggressives" following six self-defined aggressives for five years. Often mistaken for men, these women range from pretty tomboys to blatantly butch creating their own identities outside of societies established categories.
Also on March 2: Shortbus CONCERT!
11 pm at Terrace Club
Scott Matthew and Jay Brannan, two solo guitarists who wrote and performed music for Shortbus, will be giving a concert at Terrace in conjunction with Queer Articulations. There may also be a guest appearence by Peter Sickles who plays Caleb.
Saturday March 3, 8pm:
Open/ Teale Faillia / 2005/ 12 min./ USA
Through intersecting timelines and modern ideas of monogamy, an open relationship turns the lives of three women into a whirlwind of betrayal, bingo, and sex toys.
The Journey (Sancharram) / Ligy J. Pullappally / 2004 / 107 min. / India
In Malayalam with English subtitles
Kiran is mortified by her growing lesbian desire for the effervescent Delilah, in an idyllic Indian village where arranged marriage is the only acceptable form of coupling. Kiran and Delilah will come to learn that it is their life's journey, both enchanting and heart-rending, that will forge the women they ultimately become; most importantly, it is through the journey that they will come to know who they are.
