  • The Band Van

[photo] [photo] Band Van (7/88, 10/98) The Band Van may be the only orange and black plaid van in existance. The van is the Band's official vehicle, and it's the blessing/curse of the Drillmasters to drive the van around to transport instruments. The van began life in May 1988 as a drab off-white vehicle, was christened "Dick Van Dyke" at Reunions 1988, and received its way-cool paint job that Summer.

Four DMs at the Van (11/92, 5/94, 11/95) DMs are known to sleep in the van as part of a bizarre bonding ritual. Maybe that's why the inside smells funny. Or maybe it's a legacy from the old raincoats. Anyway, if you have to ask them what an Eli is, you probably deserve to be a yalie. [photo] [photo] [photo]

    Before the Van...
[photo] [photo] The Hearse (Spring '86) The van's predecessor was The Hearse. These are two of the few surviving photos of The Hearse, which came complete with curtains and cool chrome trim. The Hearse made deliveries during Spring 1984 though Fall 1987; at that point it decided to only go in reverse. After nearly a year of transporting instruments in borrowed vans and shopping carts, in May 1988 the Band became the proud owner of our present van.

Patty Hearse '69 (Fall '80, Spring '84) The archives tell of a van in the 1970's named "Pandora" and its successor, "Pandora II." By the early 80's we had moved on to this powder blue hearse named "Patty Hearse '69." Patty passed on to that great parking lot in the sky during the Summer of '84.

During the months between Patty's funeral and the arrival of The Hearse, we were loaned a station wagon named "The Yacht" (if you ever drove it, you'd understand the name). There are no pictures of it; when last seen, it was sitting behind an eating club with a tree growing through it.
