This page describes the unix-list mailing list.
unix-list@princeton.edu is a general discussion mailing list. We use it to announce events, discuss course of action for the club, schedule unix-tables, and more. In particular, it is also used as a sort of forum for asking and answering questions regarding alternative operating systems.
Subscription information
To subscribe send e-mail to listserv@lists.princeton.edu with only the line
subscribe unix-list
in its body.
To unsubscribe send e-mail to listserv@lists.princeton.edu with only the line
SIGNOFF unix-list
in its body.
Another way to maintain your subscription to the list is to use the web-interface at [1] (http://lists.princeton.edu).
Sending email
To send an email to the list, simply address it to unix-list@princeton.edu. If you're not a subscriber to the list, then you will need to confirm your email (as an anti-spam measure). However, if you're not a subscriber and you're sending to the list, you ought to subscribe -- most replies get sent only to the list. (The exception is if, for example, you're subscribed at johndoe@princeton.edu which is forwarded to john.doe@gmail.com and you want to post from the gmail address; then, you might consider subscribing the gmail addres and setting it to not receive email.)
