Princeton Unix Users' Group

From PrincetonUnixFAQ

Princeton Unix Users' Group is a student organization at Princeton University composed of members of the university with interests in alternative operating systems. The Founding Document (http://www.princeton.edu/~pug/proposal.htm) does much to explain our goals.

The official names registered with the university are Princeton Un*x Group or P-ug. But we found the former difficult to pronounce and the latter too cryptic for general everyday use.

Currently the official duties of the group are shared between

  • President: Bryan Bosworth '09
  • Vice President/Treasurer: Tom Lieber '09

The non-official duties of the group sometimes get delegated to

  • unofficial jack of all trades (including maintenance of the FAQ): Willie Wong '05 GS

What we do

  • Unix Tables Discussion forums held at either university dining facilities or eating clubs.
  • Student Activities Fair Traditionally the P-ug always sets up a booth at the SAF to publicize F/OSS and to pass out flyers and CDs. Find us there at the next SAF.
  • Configfest An event for users to get together and perform one of the trickiest bits of *nix maintenance, getting configurations right.
  • Installfest? An event that has been proposed since the beginning of this millennium and has seen its first incarnation Sunday, April 2, in Frist 234, from 1:00 p.m. onward. What better way to advertise linux by (forcibly?) instaling it on other people's computers?

Keep in Touch

Keep up to date on the club's goings-on with our weblog (http://www.princeton.edu/~pug/weblog/), and definitely be sure to sign up for our Mailing list. The list is also great for keeping up-to-date, but is also the support help line for alternative operating system users in need. Mail questions there and you'll get an answer.
